Physiotherapist

I am a registered physiotherapist and have been working in private practice clinics since
2005. I fell in love with physiotherapy when I experienced it first hand as a 12 years old patient with a knee injury. I clearly remember thinking, “I’ve found the perfect job, I get to help people heal themselves and spend my days talking!” I love the role that physiotherapists play in helping guide and educate people on their journey to recovery from injury, prevention of injury and/or obtaining their own individual physical goals. The body’s amazing ability to adapt and heal fascinated me and I have spent years learning about how the body works and I am still learning. I want to share my knowledge with my patients and continue to learn with them.

I graduated from Queens University with honors and my bachelor of science in physical therapy (BScPT) in 2005 and began working in private practice. I have completed numerous post graduate training courses in the field of orthopaedics as well and sports. I obtained my acupuncture training and completed my exams and certification through the Canadian acupuncture foundation in 2007. In 2012 I successfully completed my Masters in Clinical Science (MClSc) with a focus on manual therapy from the University of Western Ontario. This training allowed me to become a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) and at this time I also began mentoring and teaching in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association’s National Orthopaedic Division’s advanced manual and manipulative diploma program.

In 2013 I became a mom for the first time and was again fascinated by the body’s amazing ability to not only create a new tiny human but also to adapt, change and recover from the demanding physical (and emotional) tasks of pregnancy, delivery and motherhood. So I started learning more and noticing the huge connection between the worlds of orthopaedic physiotherapy and women’s health physiotherapy. I took courses and learned from leaders in the field of pelvic floor therapy (Julie Wiebe, Antony Lo, Dianne Lee, Pelvic Health Solutions and more). I obtained certification in pre and postnatal training and was mentored by physiotherapist and girls gone strong contributor Marika Hart.

I am not an internal women’s health physio, but I am passionate about women’s health issues. I work externally to help women with urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis recti and more. I work individually and in class settings to give pregnant and postpartum women the information, exercises and tools to have the best pregnancy, delivery and postpartum experience they can. The pelvic floor is an integral part of our body and it is often ignored in traditional physiotherapy settings due to embarrassment or lack of knowledge. It is just a group of muscles like any other and when they aren’t working properly they have huge impacts on life and I want to help.
